Getting Real Value from Black Friday Deals as a Festival-Goer
Black Friday 2019 has long since passed, but the habits it teaches are worth keeping for anyone planning a summer of reggae, dub and dancehall. Late-November sales tend to arrive just as many festivals start announcing early lineup names and opening their first ticket phases. That overlap makes autumn a sensible time to think about what you actually need for a weekend in a field near Fulda, and what you can skip.
Separate the hype from the essentials
Big discounts are easy to find. Useful ones are harder. Before you buy anything, make a short list of the kit that genuinely improves a festival weekend:
- A reliable tent with a proper rainfly and taped seams. German summer weather can turn quickly.
- A warm sleeping bag and an insulating mat, because nights in Hesse can be cool even in July.
- Ear protection designed for music. It lowers the volume without muffling the bass of a sound system.
- A power bank large enough to keep your phone running for a few days.
- A refillable water bottle and a rain poncho. Both are small, cheap and always useful.
Discounted gadgets you will never take out of the box are not a saving. Buying fewer, sturdier items usually costs less over several seasons.
Check before you click
Compare a product's price over a few weeks if you can, because some "deals" are simply normal prices with a new label. Read the return conditions too, and test camping gear at home before the festival so you are not pitching an unfamiliar tent in the dark.
For tickets, the safest route is always the official sale channel. Be wary of resellers advertising suspiciously cheap passes during sales periods. Our tickets page explains what to look out for.
Plan the trip, not just the shopping
Rail and coach operators sometimes run their own seasonal offers, and booking early often helps more than any one-day sale. Read our travel guide for getting to Fulda, and see the camping information to find out which items are worth bringing and which are better left at home.
